On-Road Coaching - Car

Initial Drive & Survive Training for car drivers is usually delivered on the basis of one pupil to one trainer for a half day but can be arranged for a two to one/full day basis too if required. Although the majority of training will take place behind the wheel, great care is taken first to understand each individual's normal driving circumstances and general attitude to driving. This brief classroom session is also used to gauge drivers' understanding of the enormity of the present road traffic incident problem - the majority are blissfully unaware that in the UK two people every hour of every day are injured in road incidents so severely that it has a permanent effect on their lives thereafter.

A demonstration drive will normally be carried out by the trainer first, to give participants an idea of what to expect during the rest of the session. Much emphasis is placed upon the fact that our Drive & Survive Training courses are not intended to teach people how to drive or change their basic driving techniques – hence the emphasis on coaching - and that the whole experience should be both beneficial AND enjoyable.

Trainers are only concerned with changing drivers' perception of risk by suggesting ideas and thought processes which drivers can adopt in a real world, everyday driving situation. Unlike some fleet driver training, the instruction is carried out in a relaxed way, in the belief that far more will be achieved if the driver is at ease and in a positive frame of mind. The trainer will also make every effort to involve any non driving participant, who can learn almost as much from observation and the resulting dialogue which takes place.

The session ends with a de-brief and the noting down of the key points the driver should concentrate on in the coming days and weeks ahead. The trainer’s analysis of the participant’s performance in the key areas of the course (Electronic Driver Development Profile) is then transferred electronically to head office, where the data is collated into a consolidated report for onward transmission to the main customer contact.

These are some of the other car-related courses we can provide:

“The whole awareness training session was absolutely invaluable.  The manoeuvring element was so much easier than I have always previously done it and controlling the traffic behind me when slowing down for traffic lights or junctions made me feel a lot more confident.  I felt very relaxed and able to drive very confidently.”

Estelle Waddington of Capita Business Services, referring to training received from Drive & Survive trainer Derek Hudson.

“Several really great techniques and tips which I’ll definitely use all the time, particularly how you can control traffic behind you. Super professional trainer and a great half day.”

James Hurley of Experian, referring to training received from Drive & Survive trainer Marian Bate.
